About

Welcome! So grateful you are here. My name is Yolanda Simmons, and I’m an Assistive Technology Consultant, Facilitator, Health Educator, and Parent/Disabilities Rights Advocate (all in one)who is committed to helping individuals with disabilities attain the health-accentuating resources, knowledge, and support they deserve. Passionate about guiding others on making sound decisions for their health, safety, and welfare, I bring with me an extensive 25+ year history specializing in healthcare, human services, community outreach, disability rights, health education, and performing cross-level clinical research. Also a mother of a disabled child myself, I enjoy every moment of leveraging these insights to not only help propel community/autonomy initiatives forward, but do so all while ensuring my clients feel nothing but confidence through each progressive stage.

Throughout my career, I’ve created a large inventory of experiences that have shaped me into a multidisciplinary professional. Some of those strong suits include gathering DBHDS-required Department of Medical Assistance Services documentation, submitting service authorizations and first and second-level appeals, and as a parent advocate, supporting things such as the development of Individualized Family Service Plans, Individual Education Programs, and coordinating personal assistance and respite services. But more granularly speaking, the trust among my clients stems from my relentless advocation for protecting/advancing the civil rights of disabled people, ensuring children gain free, appropriate, and restrictive-less education, and devotion to forming strong, mutually beneficial relationships. All in all, I’m not just another person looking at situations behind a glass; I’m someone who witnesses these challenges firsthand, who knows the healthcare and civil rights terrain like the back of my hand, and am someone who always places family, community, and progression first…and as my client, you can expect to become a part of that circle too.

From health education, facilitation, civil advocacy to assistive technology services, nothing makes me happier than delivering my clients’ 360-degree guidance and insights that position them for success. Overall, I’m passionate about optimizing the health and wellbeing of others and demonstrate that by not just being a consultant but also a lifelong mentor and friend along the way – all with the core goal of empowering them with no-stone-unturned service exploration that enables them to make the most educated decisions for themselves and their futures. In the end, I’m a firm believer in giving voice to the voiceless, prioritizing the health and welfare of those who need it the most, and creating better individual and community futures by instilling positive impacts today. Even more, proving that venturing through these landscapes can be a seamless and enjoyable process, especially when you have someone in your corner who values the trajectory of your life quality and happiness just as much as you do.
